Worst day ever
One of my absolute favorite eating places burned to the ground last night. The Silver Spur was the source of a lot of tatsy meals and great times for me over the last ten years. It will be deeply missed.

Back to work
We went to the Infant GI doctor on Friday, and learned nothing. We're awaiting results of a blood test, and a forthcoming upper GI X-Ray. So nothing new to report. Alex is eating better again, so it seems to me that we're all doing ok.

Carrie is going back to work starting next week, and there will be a lot of changes that come along with that. Our morning schedule is suddenly going to be much more rushed, but we'll figure it out. While Carrie is at work (three days a week), Alex will be at day care. I'm looking forward to hearing the opinion of the day care folks. Maybe they will think Alex is doing great, and maybe they will think something is still wrong with him. Either way, they see a lot of babies, so their opinion will be like gold to me.

In the mean time I've uploaded some additional pictures of Alex to the web site. Enjoy!

Recent events
Well, Carrie had her 30th birthday last week. I think it went well. Maybe some day she will post and we'll find out. We left for the weekend to go to the Wisconsin Dells and had a great time in the process. We didn't really want to come back, but we missed our little guy so we did.

Speaking of Alex, he's still doing ok. He's not sleeping through the night yet which worries Carrie, and he's starting to get picky about how much food he'll eat again. In the past when Alex has eaten less it's always led to him not feeling well, and us going to the doctor. So far he's ok, but we're both concerned. I'd love to make it through one week with out any major concerns. I don't think I'm asking too much.

New baby
Something we are doing is working (finally). Maybe it's the new formula that Alex is eating, or maybe the new medication finally kicked in. Either way we now have a happy baby who does not fuss (much) while eating, and only cries if he's hungry, tired, or has a diaper full. It's awesome.

All of this happened just in time to give Carrie a very happy birthday (yesterday). She's 30 now.... yikes! We'll be celebrating her birthday publicly early next month along with our friends Jackie and Noah who both turn 30 in April as well. Sounds like we're going to reserve some space at my favorite watering hole and gather family and friends for an evening of bowling and beer. A delicious family fun time for all. More details in the near future.

Lastly, more pictures of Alex are up in the gallery. Pictures from weeks 7 through 9 ready to be consumed by your eyes.

Children have a hospital too!
Alex has continued to have trouble, but we took him to the doctor again yesterday. They advised us that since he is now 13 lbs, 7 oz ( BIG BOY) that he can have almost three times as much Mylanta. Maybe that will help. They also said they'd like us to see a specialist (I didn't even have to ask) and made an appointment for us with Children's Hospital. The appointment is two weeks away, so we're going to call every day to try to get him in sooner.

The fine folks at Childrens Hospital called and asked us to switch to yet another formula. This one is $44.00 per 14oz can. I'm going to need a second job.

The good news is that some Japanese guys were able to play the Mario Brothers theme song using bottles filled with water and an RC car. Amazing.

Rough weekend
Things are basically back to where they started with Alex... maybe even worse. Over the weekend he's rapidly reverted to screaming at the top of his lungs any time that he's awake. Worse yet he's basically refusing to eat, taking at most only half of what he normally eats and at worst almost nothing. The ( potentially worthless ) doctor prescribed a new medicine for Alex which we received Saturday morning. I'm not sure yet if this drug does nothing at all to help with Alex's problems, or if it in fact makes things worse.

Another new thing for Alex is that he woke up this morning with a slight bloody nose. I wasn't aware that children could get a bloody nose. I'm guessing they probably aren't supposed to. At any rate we're going to see the doctor tomorrow morning and I'll be asking for a referal to a specialist (aka - thanks for nothing, do you know a real doctor we can give our money to). Maybe I should have done that a long time ago.

All of this has made for a rather hellish weekend and some very frayed nerves. My work has been kind of a shit storm lately, so the prospect of returning to that after being beaten down all weekend is not very exciting. Woe is me, I guess. Sorry for the "take pity on me" blog post, but this is basically my diary you are reading, so it's my only place to vent.

Not much
Carrie took Alex to the doctor earlier this week. All the doctor really suggested was to increase his dose of the acid reflux medicine and to monitor his progress. Since then things have continued a downward spiral. Alex is still very fussy when he eats and some times refuses to finish eating. At the same time his night time sleep schedule has gone from predictable to chaotic. We are going back to the doctor on Monday to report that the Axid seems to have done nothing. The Doctor is then going to switch Alex's meds to the strong stuff... not sure what that is yet. At this point it seems like only time is going to help. Fortunately we have a lot of that.

On a brighter note, tonight I will be going to my friend's house for our traditional weekly poker night. Usually this event runs from 6:30-11:00 every Thursday. I will be attending only from 6:30-8 tonight, but it'll be nice to be back in any capacity. I've not attended one since Alex was born, so I'm really excited. Carrie is even planning to stop by to show off our little boy to the crowd. It should be fun.
